Obituary of Margaret Jane Dale

Margaret Jane Dale (nee Mead), 97, of Larchmont NY, passed peacefully in her home on March 29, 2024.

Margaret was born on November 6, 1926 to Eveleene and Floyd Mead in Middleport, NY. After graduating from Middleport High School, she attended Syracuse University and studied nursing where she received a BS and an RN. She completed graduate work in New Haven, CT where she met the love of her life, Richard Scott Dale, a student at Yale, who later became a teacher in Mamaroneck, NY.

Nine months and nine days later they married on August 12, 1950. They returned to Pueblo, CO (Richard’s home town) where Cheryl Anne was born in 1952, John Scott in 1953, and Michael Stinson in 1955.  In 1957 the growing family moved to New York where Wendy Sue was born 1959.

Margaret and Richard dedicated their lives to one another, and to their children. Margaret was a head surgical nurse in Harlem, NY.  She then was a school nurse teacher at Mamaroneck Avenue School (where her children were enrolled) and later, at both Resurrection and Rye High Schools. Our parents were avid bridge players, they attended the NY Yankees World Series “perfect game”, hundreds of Broadway shows, and enjoyed family cocktail hours. They loved life.

They were wonderful parents who enabled, encouraged and supported their children and grandchildren. Margaret and Richard began buying, renovating and renting homes as true partners. It turned into a family project, and we enjoyed the rewards. The housing business, her children, grandchildren, and her love of travel, which took her to 7 continents and 50 states, led to an exciting life.

Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard, her parents and brother, Ralph Mead. She is survived by Cheryl (Gary Cohen), John (Marianne Dale), Michael (Margaret Dale) and Wendy Dale, eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two nephews, Jim and David Dale in Colorado.

One of Margaret’s favorite sayings was “Treat friends like family, and family like friends” and she did. Words we can all live by.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, please send donations in honor of Margaret Dale to the Dementia Society of America (https://www.dementiasociety.org/) or the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/). There will be a memorial celebration of Margaret’s life. Please reach out to the family for details.
