Obituary for Fr. Stephen Gormley LC

Fr. Stephen J. Gormley, LC, 58, died peacefully at St. Camillus CareCenter, Stamford, CT onSeptember 1, 2012. Fr. Gormley was bornin New Rochelle, NY and lived in Larchmont, until he entered the seminary atage 18. Afterattending Iona Prep and Mamaroneck High School, Stephen studied for thepriesthood in Orange, CT, Salamanca, Spain, Gregorian University, Rome, and wasordained a priest of the Legionaries of Christ in 1987. At the age of 36, while ministering in Brazil, Fr. Gormleysuffered a life-threatening auto accident that changed the course of hislife. Throughout his many years ofrecovery, Fr. Gormley never ceased to inspire others with his heroic,courageous and resilient spirit and dedication to serving others throughout his24 years of priesthood. Theson of Eugene(deceased) and Mary Niewenhous Gormley of Greenwich, Ct., Fr.Gormley was the 4th of nine siblings: Mary Lou Warren, Fr. Eugene Gormley,LC,Anne (Steven) Daly, Greg (Lynda) Gormley, Kathleen (Gary) Gutekunst, Philip(Nuria) Gormley, Lorraine (Michael) Lunapiena, and was pre-deceased by sisterClaire (William) Collier, and leaves behind 16 nieces and nephews. The Gormley Family expressestheir gratitude to the Pastoral Care Team and staff of St. Camillus and to themany Legionaries of Christ seminarians and priests for their dedicated care toStephen during his years of illness. Calling hours will be at the John J. Fox Funeral Home,Inc. 2080 Boston Post Road,Larchmont, NY Monday 5-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St.Augustine Church, Larchmont on Tuesday 10 AM. .
